It is one of the most common reasons people book a skin consultation with us, and one of the hardest to describe. There is rarely one spot to point at. The skin simply looks tired, feels uneven under your fingers, and catches the light badly in photos.
The good news is that uneven tone and texture respond well to treatment. The catch is that “uneven” can mean several different things, and the right treatment depends on which one you have.

Most people have some of both, which is why we rarely treat them the same way. Something that brightens the surface will not rebuild a pitted scar, and something that rebuilds collagen will not fix dullness overnight.

Blotchy redness, brown patches, sallowness and dullness. The skin may feel smooth, but it does not look even.

Roughness, bumps, enlarged pores, shallow scarring and fine crepey lines. You can feel it as well as see it.
Close your eyes and run a fingertip across your cheek. If you can feel the unevenness, texture is part of the picture.
What We See Most
Common Causes Of Uneven Skin Tone And Texture
Before we pick a treatment, we want to know what is making your skin look uneven. These are the concerns that bring most people in.
Enlarged Pores
Pores that look stretched or open, especially across the nose and cheeks. Oil, congestion and a gradual loss of collagen around the pore walls all play a part. You cannot shrink a pore permanently, but you can make it look noticeably smaller.
Shallow Acne Scarring
The soft dips and uneven patches left after old breakouts, often rolling or boxcar scars. They throw small shadows that make the whole face read uneven, even when the color is fine.
Dull, Tired-Looking Skin
No redness, no spots, just a flat, grey quality that makeup sits on top of rather than blends into. Slow cell turnover and dehydration are usually behind it.
Blotchy Tone From Sun Damage
Years of sun leave skin patchy rather than evenly tanned: slightly darker in some areas, rougher in others. This one is usually a tone and texture problem at the same time.
Crepey Texture And Fine Lines
Thin, finely wrinkled skin around the eyes, mouth and neck as collagen production slows with age. It changes how light reflects off the skin long before it looks like wrinkling.

We offer three treatments for uneven skin. Some people need just one. Plenty get a better result from two used in sequence, and we plan it so your skin is never recovering from two things at once.

Microneedling
Stimulates collagen remodeling to improve skin texture, tone, visible pores and overall smoothness.
We use SkinPen, the first microneedling device to earn FDA clearance. Very fine sterile needles create thousands of microscopic channels in the skin, and your body responds by producing new collagen and elastin. Over the following weeks the skin rebuilds itself firmer and more even than it was.
For texture, this is the treatment we reach for most. It softens rolling and boxcar acne scars, tightens the look of enlarged pores and smooths crepey skin. It also helps tone, since faster cell turnover sheds the dull, uneven surface layer sooner. SkinPen uses no heat and no chemicals, so it is suitable for all Fitzpatrick skin types and can be done year round.

Chemical Peels
Exfoliate damaged surface cells to improve brightness, superficial discoloration and skin smoothness.
A peel loosens the bonds holding dead, dull cells to the surface so your skin sheds them faster and brings fresher skin up from underneath. We use superficial peels based on acids such as glycolic, lactic, salicylic or mandelic, and choose the type and strength at your appointment based on your skin and how it has handled treatment before.
Peels are the best fit when the surface is the issue: roughness, dullness, congested pores and light, even discoloration. One peel gives you a fresher look. A series is what actually shifts the texture. After a peel, expect your skin to feel tight for a day or two and then flake. Let it flake on its own.

Candela Glacē™
Gently exfoliates, cleanses, hydrates and refreshes dull or uneven-looking skin.
Glacē is a medical-grade hydrodermabrasion facial from Candela, the same company behind our GentleMax Pro Plus laser. A diamond-tip handpiece exfoliates dead skin while a closed vacuum system clears out pores and infuses serums at the same time, followed by a cupping massage to reduce puffiness and a calming finish. The serums are chosen for what your skin needs that day, whether that is hydration, brightening or decongesting.
This is the gentlest option on the page, and there is little to no downtime. Most people find it relaxing rather than uncomfortable, and your skin looks smoother and brighter as you leave. That makes it a good choice before an event, for skin that is too sensitive for a peel right now, or as regular maintenance between microneedling courses.

The Consultation
We look at your skin in good light, ask how long the unevenness has bothered you and what you have tried, and check both tone and texture. Tell us about recent sun exposure, active skin conditions, any history of cold sores, and medications that affect healing, including retinoids and isotretinoin. If you are pregnant or nursing, mention it here.

Your Plan
We explain which treatment we recommend and why, how many sessions it usually takes, and whether combining treatments makes sense for you. If you are coming in for more than one thing, we put them in the right order.

The Treatment
A peel takes about thirty minutes. Glacē runs a similar length and needs no recovery. Microneedling takes around an hour, and a fair chunk of that is just letting the numbing cream work.

Afterwards
After microneedling you will be pink for a day or two, similar to a mild sunburn. Peels flake for a few days. After Glacē most people go straight back to their day. Plan around big events rather than booking microneedling or a peel right before one.
Aftercare
Protecting Your Results
Smoother, more even skin is also fresh skin, and fresh skin is sensitive to sun.
Wear a broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher every day and reapply when you are outside, including in winter. Skipping it is the quickest way to bring blotchiness back.
You go home with written instructions for your specific treatment. If anything seems off, call the clinic instead of guessing.
The Rest Is Simple
- Do not pick or peel flaking skin
- Pause retinoids and exfoliating acids for the time we give you
- Keep your skin moisturized
- Avoid heavy sweating, hot yoga and saunas for forty eight hours after microneedling or a peel
- Stay out of swimming pools for forty eight hours after microneedling or a peel
- Skip scrubs, harsh exfoliants and waxing on the area for about a week after Glacē
- Broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher, daily, reapplied outdoors
Realistic Expectations
How Long Results Take
Glacē gives you a visible glow the same day, and regular sessions every month or two keep it there. Peels work as a series, and most people notice their skin looking smoother and brighter by the third one.
Microneedling is slower because it depends on your skin building new collagen. Real change tends to show between weeks four and twelve and keeps developing for months after your last session.
Texture and tone are also something you maintain. Many clients come back once or twice a year for a maintenance session, which is a lot easier than starting over.
Who We Ask To Wait
None of these are a permanent no. They are timing questions, and all worth mentioning when you book.
- Active breakouts, cold sores, open wounds or infection in the treatment area
- A recent sunburn or fresh tan
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Isotretinoin (Accutane) taken in the last six months
- A history of keloid scarring
- Blood thinners or a bleeding disorder, for microneedling

Your price depends on which treatment you need and how much area we are treating, so we confirm it at your consultation. The number we give you is the number you pay.
Numbing cream, sterile single-use cartridges and post-treatment product are included in the session price, not added on afterwards.
We book through Vagaro, which offers Buy Now, Pay Later through Affirm. If you are spreading a treatment course over several months, you can spread the cost too. Applying takes a couple of minutes and does not affect your credit score. Rates and terms come from Affirm, not from us.

What Is The Best Treatment For Uneven Skin Texture?
For most texture concerns, including rough skin, enlarged pores and shallow acne scars, SkinPen microneedling is where we start because it rebuilds collagen under the surface. If the roughness is mostly on the surface, a series of chemical peels or Candela Glacē may be enough. The best treatment depends on what is causing the unevenness, which is what your consultation is for.
How Is Microneedling Different From A Chemical Peel?
A peel works from the outside, removing dull surface cells so fresher skin shows through. Microneedling works from the inside, triggering new collagen that smooths texture over time. Peels are better for surface dullness and blotchiness. Microneedling is better for pores, scarring and crepey skin. Many people benefit from both.
What Is A Candela Glacē Facial?
Glacē is a hydrodermabrasion facial from Candela. It exfoliates with a diamond-tip handpiece, clears out pores and infuses serums at the same time, then finishes with a cupping massage and a calming step. It is gentle, has little to no downtime and leaves skin looking smoother and brighter straight away.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
Usually four for a microneedling course, three to six for peels, and Glacē every month or two for ongoing results. We give you a clear number at consultation.
Do These Treatments Work On Darker Skin?
Yes. SkinPen microneedling uses no heat, so it is suitable for all Fitzpatrick skin types. Peels are started at lower strengths and increased gradually, and Glacē suits most skin types. We plan every treatment around your skin tone.
Is There Any Downtime?
Very little. Glacē has essentially none. Microneedling leaves you pink for one to three days. Peels cause light flaking for a few days. Most people treat on a Friday and are back to normal by Monday.
Can I Combine This With Hair Removal?
Yes, and many of our clients do, since they are already here for electrolysis or laser hair removal. We schedule treatments so the same area is not recovering from two things at once. Clearing ingrown hairs and shaving bumps can itself make skin look smoother and more even.
